Due to the very favorable exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Euro, the USA and especially the tourist regions will be preferred destinations for Europeans this year. Book your flights early to get your preference. The two international airports nearest to the Lake Powell area are Phoenix and Las Vegas - the distance between Phoenix and Page (280 miles) is almost the same as between Las Vegas and Page (260 miles). Many airlines, European as well as American, are offering direct flights from major European airports to these two destinations. The trip from Phoenix can either be done by rented car or by plane. Page has a domestic airport. From Las Vegas rented car is your option, no direct flight comes to Page.

Early planning and booking is strongly advised.

The enormeous interest for this region, especially for the water activities on Lake Powell, is creating another situation worth considering. The regular renting of power boats will be more expensive this year than it has been. There is only one official boat renting agency in the Wahweap Recreation Area and therefore no sanctioned competition leading to more favorable rates. In addition, as everywhere else the price of gas went up, currently $2.xx per US gallon (3.78 liters). Power boats use a lot of gas so cruising the lake is expensive fun. There is no way that we can change the gas price, however we can help you by offering a lower "renting" rate. There is the possibility that a guest may become a co-owner of a boat - he shares the cost of the boat with other poeple ("boat-sharing") – thereby reducing his vacation costs. Once he decides to quit his co-ownership he can sell his shares. We offer guests of our vacation house the co-ownership on a power boat as a special privilege.

Another important aspect to consider is the geological stability of the region. It is part of the Grand Canyon region (tilted tectonic blocks of continental crust) and earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are events of the distant past. (Mount St Helens is over 1000 miles away and has no influence on conditions in the Lake Powell area). Especially important - the weather is not going to exhibit any capriciousness. The weather is stable and not subject to hurricanes or tornados. During the summer months it is very hot, but brief afternoon showers provide some relief by freshening the air and cooling it. This region is considered to be the driest region of the USA.

Emphasizing an aspect in our own behalf: The vacation house is a fully furnished, newly decorated house ready to be rented end of April 2005. It is thus suited for people who intend to spend the rest of their lives (perhaps just some months per year) in this part of the world. It has roughly 80 square meters of floor space divided into a living room, a dining area, a kitchen, bath room and 2 bedrooms, as well as a generous deck accessed via patio doors. It is equipped with all the appliances which are considered standard.in the US (i. e. the house is air conditioned, the kitchen has a stove, a refrigerator with freezer, microwave oven, washing machine/dryer combination, telephone, satellite TV and Wireless Internet access.

We are interested in the long term renting of the house to a family.

Lake Powell is considered to be one of the top vacation spots of the world. During the summer months almost 2 million people - many of them from Europe - are enjoying this area. Lake Powell is located in the heart of the Southwest on the border line between Utah and Arizona. The lake was created by blocking the flow of the mighty Colorado River near Page by building a dam - the Glen Canyon Dam. The dam fulfills thus two tasks: the generation of electricity for this part of the country and the generation of a beautiful landscape dominated by red sandstone rocks and blue water - the ideal place to spend the most valuable weeks of the year - the vacation time. The area the lake expands into borders the Navajo indian reservation, and into canyonlands; with the result that there are few towns or cities near the lake, and very little road access - with exception of Page (on the Arizona side) and Big Water (on the Utah side).

Lake Powell CastleThe access to the lake is via Wahweap Recreation Park. Rental facilities for powerboats, houseboats, personal watercraft and water toys are all available to the visitor, as well as bathing beachs, picnicgrounds and campgrounds. This unique situation helps distribute the visitors widely, avoiding overcrowding of the area. Thus, everyone can find spots along the 3150 kilometers of lake shoreline, and remain completely undisturbed by anyone else - the ideal situation to refill the personal accumulator.

Note: the selection of meat (beef, pork, poultry), fish, vegetables, fruits, and wine (especially California. wines) is great; in addition, there is a huge selection of domestic and international (German, Mexican, English etc.) beer brands. Whoever devotes some time to strolling the aisles of the two food stores (Safeway and Basha’s) will find almost everything starting from Italian noodle specialities to German dumplings.

Page has a marvelous golf course surprising the player not only with a very well groomed lawn but also with a gorgeous view of the lake. The green of the golf course forms a fantastic contrast to the redish-brown rocks of the landscape and the deep blue of the lake. The golf course is 18 holes. The user can book a 9 holes game as well as an 18 holes game (18 holes game $ 49/day; 9 holes game $ 30/day). The clubs can be rented . The golf course at Page is represented on the internet (www.golflakepowell.com)
